Ready, AIM, combustion
The series of little sparks within the Asian Institute of Management have now turned into a prairie fire, with the leftist Kilusang Mayo Uno even threatening to picket the region’s first business school in support of the besieged AIM Faculty Association.
Not wanting to unduly upset the corporate benefactors and the Zobel landlords, the still straightlaced AIM faculty, according to the grapevine, diplomatically declined the street annoyance tactics being offered by their newly-found proletarian allies.
Still, the now perceptibly militant AIM professors will today pursue a scheduled symposium on academic freedom at the ACCEED building behind the AIM campus, to be attended by the academic unions of the University of the Philippines, De La Salle, and Ateneo de Manila.

But, in an 11th-hour setback, AIM president Francis Estrada, who was reportedly abroad, got wind of the symposium and prevailed on the ACCEED management, which is an AIM adjunct project, to cancel the contract and deny the AIM faculty union use of the venue.
According to the grapevine, suspended AIM professors Victor Limlingan and Emmanuel Leyco will this morning literally knock on the doors of the ACCEED building to honor their symposium contract and, in a sign of the faculty union’s increasing savviness, are even bringing in, courtesy of the Virtusio public relations firm, a couple of television news teams to record the event. UP School of Economics professors Raul Fabella and Emmanuel de Dios yesterday stuck and twisted the stiletto on former Economic Planning Secretary Romulo Neri during the continuation of the televised hearing on the controversial national broadband network project.
The Diliman duo complained about the quality of staff work at the National Economic Development Authority and how it has degenerated through the years from the time of their mentor, Gerardo Sicat.
The two of course did not say that Neri only holds an MBA degree, with BSBA marketing for his undergraduate course, and that many of the present NEDA staff come from the Diliman campus, their very own students.

Judicious considerations
September 24, 2007
ALL the 14 Supreme Court justices will meet again tomorrow to finally decide the Maysilo-Araneta University estate case, but at the rate the inhibitions have been dwindling their number, there could only be eight to nine justices left to decide on the hotly-contested multi-billion fortune.
According to the grapevine, five justices have already inhibited themselves, namely, Chief Justice Reynato Puno, Antonio Carpio, Eduardo Nachura, Consuelo Ynares-Santiago, and Cancio Garcia.
Garcia, ironically, was part of the Third Division that upheld in November 2005 the title of CLT Realty Development to the 80-hectare estate over that of Araneta University and other claimants.

CARPIO
According to the grapevine, the five justices are related to the parties or their counsels personally or professionally, or had dealt with the case in the past before their appointments to the high court.
The five, do not hold your breath, may even become six.
The high-end Ayalas are now moving into the Megaworld market; their Avida Towers Makati West which is being built at the flood-prone Malugay St. in Makati offers condo units as small as 22 square meters.
